The QandAcafe was awarded the Virtual Reference Desk Exemplary Service Award for defining quality digital reference service on the Internet. Joanne Silverstein of Syracuse University presented the award to Susan Holmer, who represented the QandAcafe and the Golden Gateway Library Network, on November 12, 2001, at the third annual Virtual Reference Desk or VRD conference, in Orlando Florida. The Virtual Reference Desk Project at Syracuse University is sponsored by the United States Department of Education.

The Virtual Reference Desk Project is dedicated to the advancement of digital reference and the successful creation and operation of human-mediated, Internet-based information services.
