After Ian Jarrett photographs a mysterious woman in Vienna, time seems to play tricks on him. She had told him her name was Marian Esguard, but when she fails to show up for a rendezvous back home in England, he tries to track her down. Marian Esguard had been an overlooked photographer from the 19th century and he becomes intrigued with her. Ian wonders if he has had an encounter with a ghost, or is there some other more menacing explanation? Perhaps something to do with a tragic accident Ian was responsible for years ago has come back to haunt him?
