This is Jeffery Deaver's third time featuring NYPD detective Lincoln Rhyme, a criminalist. A quadriplegic, he directs investigations from his wheelchair with his associate, Amelia Sachs. This time, in North Carolina for surgery, he winds up getting pulled into solving a kidnap/murder case.
